Kaw remains the law in St. Louis.
The XFL revealed the team names and logos for the 2023 season on Monday, confirming that the squad in St. Louis will continue to be known as the Battlehawks. The league, which has been dormant since suspending operations early in the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is planning its reboot with eight teams. The Battlehawks will play their home games at The Dome at America’s Center, just as the franchise’s previous incarnation did two years ago.
However, the team itself is St. Louis in name only. XFL squads will be based at an operations hub in Arlington, Texas during the season, and fly to respective cities for games. Other teams include the Arlington Renegades, DC Defenders, Orlando Guardians, Houston Roughnecks, San Antonio Brahmas, Seattle Sea Dragons, and Vegas Vipers. Anthony Becht, a former NFL tight end who played in 16 games for the St. Louis Rams in 2008, will be the Battlehawks’ head coach. Former Rams Ricky Proehl (receivers) and La’Roi Glover (defensive line) will serve on Becht’s coaching staff.
Before the 2020 season abruptly ended, the Battlehawks were the toast of the XFL. In two home games, the team averaged more than 28,000 fans at The Dome. The XFL filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy shortly after suspending the 2020 season, and the league’s new ownership team is led by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia. Earlier this year, the XFL announced that every game of the 2023 season will air on ESPN or another Disney-affiliated network.
The season will kick off on February 18, 2023.
