You may have noticed the city’s new high-tech parking meters, which accept payment from credit cards and cellphones. No matter how you pay, you’ll soon be paying more: This summer will bring a rate hike, thanks to a study showing that St. Louis charges less than its peers. Parking revenue goes first to pay down $57 million in debt on garages and capital projects, then into the city’s general fund. Who knew feeding the meter could be so complicated?
