As the backbone of the healthcare system, nurses play a central role in every patient’s experience. From May 6–12, National Nurses Week celebrates healthcare workers for all they do.
Cassandra Zehenney, a nurse with 11 years of experience and assistant nurse manager at BJC Healthcare, says the week is an important opportunity to lift spirits. Nurses often spend long shifts—sometimes 13 hours on their feet—caring for patients, often without breaks. “[Nurses Week] helps us take intentional time to recognize all the nurses who put so much into improving the lives of others,” Zehenney says.
