Brad Kane, when he was 18, recording the singing voice behind Disney’s “Aladdin” character.
Brad Kane was just 18 when he recorded and sang the voice behind Disney’s “Aladdin” character, including the megahit, “A Whole New World.” At the time, he had no idea the movie would resonate with fans for decades to come. Back when Kane was auditioning for the part, he didn’t give too much importance to the role. “I went in and I sang the song they gave me… and I just got very lucky,” he says.
Now 42, married and the father of a 19-month-old girl, Kane is on tour promoting Disney’s re-release of the film, “Aladdin: Diamond Edition” on DVD and Blu-Ray, which is set for today. During a recent media stop in St. Louis, Kane was upright about his desire to make another Disney movie, but says he doubts he’d land on something like “Aladdin” a second time. “I’d probably be so nervous going into [the audition] that I might not be cast today. I’d be terrified!” he says. In addition, his voice seems to be forever attached to and recognized as that of Aladdin’s, says Kane. These days, the singer and writer is busy working on a television series for STARZ. He is also preparing for production on a movie he wrote, set to begin next year.
