For 150 years, Tower Grove Park has been a place for the community to be immersed in Victorian architecture and wooded green spaces. Now, for its milestone anniversary, the park is throwing a birthday party of sorts.
“We know that Tower Grove Park is a special park for a lot of people,” says Beth Casagrand, director of community programs for Tower Grove Park. “We wanted the opportunity to have a festival where we’re just celebrating the park, and we’re celebrating 150 years of what makes [the park] special.”
"This will be the biggest event ever by the park, for the park," adds David Lauber, director of development for Tower Grove Park.
The Birthday Bash Celebration will be held this Sunday, October 23, from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. The park will host live music, drinks, and food for people of all ages. A handful of food trucks will be on hand, including Roxy’s Hot Grill, Pretzel Boys, Tuk Tuk Thai, and more.
“We’re going to be singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the park, as well as offering free birthday cake to folks,” says Casagrand. “We really work to embody one of our core values of welcoming, and this little festival is kind of at the heart of that.”
At the birthday bash, there will also be live music throughout the day. Women’s folk rock tribute band KG Lang will play at noon, and local blues and soul artist Dylan Triplett will follow. Local artist Celia will perform at the Children’s Performance area as well.
“I think people get excited when they see them doing something at Tower Grove Park,” Casagrand says. “No matter what people are looking to do, no matter what age they are, there’s going to be something for them to do.”
Casagrand says the St. Louis community has been supportive of the event and seems especially interested in the music acts. “I think it’s going to be really neat to see everyone who’s out there to support us,” she says. “The outdoor spaces are very near and dear to people’s hearts. I think it’s going to be really good to see everyone coming out, having a good time, and just enjoying the day.”
