In addition to its “Veganuary” launch this month—with six ambitious new vegan flavors, including one created in the 2022 Pantone Color of the Year—Clementine’s Naughty and Nice Creamery will be launching new breakfast-themed flavors (such as Liege Waffles and Captain Brunch) in honor of National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day, February 5. Similar to last year, Clementine’s six locations will celebrate with a Breakfast at Tiffany’s-themed event from 9 a.m.–noon that inclusdes jewelry giveaways from Tiffany & Co., free mugs, and visits from Dancakes’ pancake artists at four of the shops. For Valentine’s Day, four additional flavors will be released: Vegan Rose Cream, Red Velvet Cake with Godiva Dark Chocolate Liquor (boozy), Cinful Bunz with Rumchata and Butterscotch Schnapps (boozy), and the return of Love Handles, made with chocolate pretzels and dark chocolate brownie chunks. Look for details about specific release dates on Clementine’s Instagram and Facebook page.
INSIDER TIP
WEGAP Suspends Daily Operations
Alas, the double whammy of the pandemic-related lack of business and labor shortages have shuttered another beloved restaurant, West End Grill & Pub, known to devotees as WEGAP. Effective immediately, the longtime restaurant in the Central West End is suspending day-to-day operations. A social media post from the restaurant reads, “We appreciate your support as we navigate through these next few months.” The restaurant does plan to open, however, for special events and on performance nights at the adjacent Gaslight Theater. WEGAP will also be open February 13, Super Bowl Sunday, and serve a special game day buffet. And parties of 35 or more can book the space by calling 314-517-2449.

Très Peu French Restaurants and Bistros

In a town that was founded by French settlers, we’ve long been amazed by the lack of French-themed restaurants, bistros, and cafés. There have been many standouts over the years: Bistro 1130, Café Balaban, Cafe Campagnard, Cafe de France, Chez Leon, Fio’s La Fourchette, Franco, L’Auberge Bretonne, Le Petit Paris, Petit Pigalle, Pomme… But in today’s sea of local restaurants, there’s only a smattering of the genre, such as Bar Les Freres, Brasserie, Café Provencal, Vin de Set, and Petit Paree in Festus. We long for more French fare, sidewalk or otherwise.
