The London Tea Room launches online bakery

Initial offerings include sweet scones, macarons in rotating flavors, blueberry lemon cake, English sausage rolls, fresh brewed ready-to-drink teas, and more.

The London Tea Room (255 Union) is known for its one-of-a-kind dining experience, offering authentic English tea service in DeBaliviere Place. Now, however, the team behind the tea is branching out with an online bakery, allowing customers to enjoy English tea from their own dining rooms.

Owners Josh and Nathan Richardson recall when the London Tea Room was a café concept on Morgan Ford, before eventually relocating and switching to full tea service following the pandemic. An online bakery allows a return to form while keeping the tea service concept.

“We haven’t really done a la carte stuff in quite a while, so this was a way to bring some of that back to offer,” Nathan says.

The team also considered that while many customers choose the London Tea Room to celebrate a special event, some would prefer to have the experience in their own homes, where hours, reservations, and per-person pricing are not factors.

“We’re hoping that people can take home some of the London Tea Room with them, whether that be for an event, something they’re celebrating, or just a snack,” says Nathan. “We wanted to offer what we have to people in their homes and not necessarily have them come into the restaurant every time they want a scone.”

The menu includes scones with cream and jam (“an absolute must,” says Nathan), as well as macarons, blueberry lemon cake, and savory offerings such as full-size sausage rolls (as opposed to the mini ones served in the restaurant) with HP sauce and mustard, and 9-inch tins of shepherd’s pie, which can be baked at home. Ready-to-drink teas are also available in easy-to-carry tea caddies.

In the future, the team hopes to expand the offerings to include more desserts and pastries, as well as single-serve items or even catering options. “We’re interested to see where this takes us,” says Nathan. “We definitely hope to expand.”

Orders can be placed here for Thursday, September 24 pick up and, in the future, up to 14 days in advance. Same-day pickup is available with advance notice; whole cakes require at least one day’s notice. Orders can be picked up Wednesday through Sunday. Delivery is not currently available.
