The Dish: La Patisserie Chouquette

The Drip Cake at La Patisserie Chouquette

Part of the signboard inside Simone Faure’s shop reads, “Standard Clutch, $65; Designer Shoes, $40.” What appears to be a cut-rate boutique is in fact a first-rate pastry shop, La Pâtisserie Chouquette. During her tenure as executive pastry chef at the Ritz-Carlton in her hometown of New Orleans, the couture-loving Faure began creating near-identical replicas of ladies’ handbags and pumps—using cake, fondant, and chocolate—a practice that continues at her shop in

Botanical Heights. Chouquette is also a repository of sinful croissants, éclairs, singular cakes, and macarons that’s as legit as Ladurée and a whole lot closer to home. Faure recently introduced another gâteau distingué: the drip cake, a bold, beautiful, custom-made showstopper. It’s available large and small, short and tall. 1626 Tower Grove, 314-932-7935, simonefaure.com.
