One of the most popular breakfast spots in St. Louis is on the move. Songbird, the acclaimed daytime spot from the owners of Kounter Kulture, is relocating from its original home in Forest Park Southeast to a larger space in Tower Grove South.

Owner Chris Meyer says they’ve signed a lease for 3153 Morganford Ave., formerly home to Three Monkeys (and, later, Black Sheep Whiskey and Wine). Fans of the acclaimed restaurant, which frequently has a line out the door on weekends, will be happy to hear that the new space will offer much more seating – about 85 seats total, compared to the current location’s 40 seats inside. “It should make things way more comfortable for people,” Meyer says. “Less wait, more accommodation. Right now, we have a cap on reservations because of our size, so it should allow us to increase the number of reservations we take as well.”

The new location also boasts a 27-spot parking lot – a huge boon in the middle of the city, Meyer notes – and a garage space with a separate entrance that will be used for picking up carryout orders. Eventually, the team also hopes to add a grab-and-go section.

Songbird first opened at 4476 Chouteau in Forest Park Southeast in 2020 and serves breakfast and lunch fare including its beloved breakfast sandwich, The Combo, as well as house-cured lox on a housemade bialy, seasonal farm toast and more. Meyer says the new location’s larger kitchen will allow them to expand the menu to include more housemade pastries and new lunch offerings and also run specials.

Meyer is grateful for the support of the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood and emphasizes that the restaurant is only moving about two miles away. That said, she’s excited that the new location is just a few blocks away from the Tower Grove Farmers Market, where Kitchen Kulture got its start selling food-themed T-shirts and quickly earned a reputation for serving one of St. Louis’ most popular breakfast sandwiches. “This sounds really sappy, but it just feels like we’re going home,” she says. “It feels really comforting. That neighborhood has a lot of significance for us, and it’s a really good fit for us on a bunch of levels.”

Meyer hopes to have Songbird open in its new location by early winter.
