Smoke N Bones BBQ opened this week at 6417 Hampton, near Loughborough Avenue in St. Louis Hills.

Smoked meats include pulled pork, beef, chicken (by the whole or half bird), sausage, turkey breast, beef sausage, and ribs. “We also make something like a sloppy Joe sandwich, with shredded chicken, beef, and pork in a sauce that we make for the sandwich,” says owner Aaron Machado. “We’ve only been open three days, but our top sellers so far are the ribs, the beef, and the pork.”

Among the sides: barbecue beans, green beans, potato salad, cheesy potatoes, French fries, baked potatoes, sweet corn, applesauce, and garlic bread. “Our best-selling sides are the cheesy potatoes, mac and cheese, and—believe it or not—the broccoli, which is steamed and then pan-fried in butter and a little garlic, says Machado.”
The menu also offers salads, which can be topped with meats, as well as kid-friendly options. Soft drinks, lemonade, coffee, and water are available, and Machado is in the process of applying for a liquor license.

Smoke N Bones is a family affair. “My dad, Enrique, has been in the barbecue business at various restaurants since the mid-1990s,” says Machado, who knew that he wanted to open a barbecue joint with his father as pitmaster. “When I was a kid, I would put on his too-big uniforms, like I was following in his footsteps.
“Later, when I worked in restaurants, I would think, ‘If this was my place, here’s what I’d do.’ Now I have my place. My dad, my mom, my younger sister, and my girlfriend work with me, and I’m doing things how I want them done.”
Smoke N Bones offers carryout, catering, patio seating, and in-house dining. Hours of operation are 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m.–10 p.m. on weekends.
