Three popular St. Louis restaurants will be part of a new food hall at a remodeled Schnucks store in Kirkwood.
Located at the Schnucks at 10233 Manchester, the food hall concept will include fare from the Tower Grove East barbecue joint The Shaved Duck, Korean-Mexican food fusion chain Seoul Taco, and Kirkwood’s The Greek Kitchen. The three restaurants will have small service counters and share a common dine-in seating area.
This isn’t the first collaboration between Schnucks, The Shaved Duck, and Seoul Taco. The Kirkwood store previously partnered with the restaurants to offer grab-and-go options.
At the new food hall, Seoul Taco will offer the same menu as the one available at its brick-and-mortar locations, says owner David Choi.
“We’ve already had a great response with grab-and-go items in more than a dozen Schnucks stores," says Choi. "Now it’s great to be able to offer our menu at one of their locations. Being in Kirkwood seemed like a natural fit for us."
Shaved Duck owner Ally Nisbet says the restaurant had been working with Schnucks over the past year, offering pulled pork, ribs, and sides at a few of their locations. "The partnership with Schnucks has been wonderful from day one," Nisbet says. "This new concept has growth potential for all of us. We can’t wait to get our team out there and start cooking."
At the Kirkwood location, The Shaved Duck will be smoking its signature cherry and hickory barbecue: burnt ends, brisket, ribs, and seasonal offerings that the restaurant's developed exclusively for Schnucks. "Everything will be as fresh and tasty as it can get," says Nisbet.
As a first-time collaborator with Schnucks, The Greek Kitchen plans to offer a smaller menu with such dishes as gyros, falafel wraps, chicken wraps, salads, hummus, and its popular Avgolemono soup, as well as sides of onion rings and fries. It's also considering offering grab-and-go items, such as baklava, salad dressing, and hummus.
“We’re excited our customers will be able to come and grab a gyro before or after shopping," says The Greek Kitchen co-owner Lisa Nicholas. "It’s going to be a nice option for some people, especially people getting off work looking for dinner.”
The new food hall concept is part of a larger remodeling project at Schnucks’ Kirkwood location. The store, which currently stands at 60,000 square feet and employs 95 workers, will have several new features including an updated exterior, kombucha on tap, a self-service nut butter section, and expanded grab ‘n’ go meals. It will also sell St. Louis-inspired streetwear at an Arch Apparel store-within-a store.
While Schnucks Markets has previously renovated some of its 111 stores, including its downtown and Central West End locations, it’s the first time it's embarked on a design project of this kind.
Schnucks plans to finish the remodel of its Kirkwood location by midsummer. “We ask for our customers to ‘pardon our dust’ and appreciate their patience,” Schnucks Kirkwood manager Heidi Johnson said in a statement.
