In days past, the only time a restaurant saw its competition was at a gala charity event. Nowadays, chefs team up with chefs, restaurants pair up with bars or other restaurants, and now—just this week—a restaurant is getting together with chefs who own food trucks.
Collaborations are a proven way for food and beverage establishments to cross-market themselves. By doing so, they reach their own clientele, the collaborator’s clientele, and in the case below, passers-by who notice a food truck parked outside a restaurant and decide to mosey on in.

Arlene and Stanley Browne, owners of Robust Wine Bar (Webster Groves and downtown at the MX), have just announced The Truck Stops Here — A Robust and STL Food Truck Collision, a four-part collaborative series in conjunction with four local food trucks.
On Wednesday, April 27, exec chef Joseph Hemp of Robust and Brian Hardesty, the fine dining chef who co-owns the Filipino-fusion Guerrilla Street Food truck, will present a special menu of Filpino-inspired dishes (offered prix fixe and a la carte) at Robust’s Webster location from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will also feature themed beer, wine, and cocktail pairings.
To take the collaboration one step further, spearheading the latter will be Natasha Bahrami, who runs The Gin Room at her namesake restaurant, Café Natasha’s. Bahrami (aka The Gin Girl) will create a specialty cocktail for the event. (Think it’ll be gin-based?)
On May 25, Mission Taco Joint‘s food truck will roll into its owners hometown of Webster for a collaboration.
The remaining collaborations have yet to be announced, but with all the bona fide chefs who’ve recently entered the food truck scene (Simon Lusky of Revel Kitchen, Bill Cawthon of Frankly Sausages, Samantha Mitchell of Farmtruk), chances are there may be some interesting pairings. We’ll keep you posted.
