Ranoush will open a new location in the Central West End in late February. The Syrian restaurant’s second venue will replace Levant at 386 N. Euclid, the space previously occupied by Kopperman’s Deli.
Ranoush owner Aboud Alhamid, who also runs the longtime location in the Delmar Loop, expects the restaurant to open in about four weeks. He says the transition should be simple and seamless, with a few cosmetic changes to the interior. “We’ll change the name, the menu, and a little bit of the decoration,” he says, noting that, like the other Ranoush location, the fare will be fresh and healthy.

Ranoush will be located next door to the latest Salt + Smoke location, which opened January 17. With Mission Taco Joint just two doors down, Ranoush’s arrival completes a trio of restaurants on the same block that also have locations on Delmar Boulevard. Alhamid says that was part of the impulse to open Ranoush on Euclid, and he believes all three restaurants will be a boon for the area. “A lot of businesses have closed in the Central West End,” he says. “I think Ranoush and Salt + Smoke will push the area more.”
Alhamid’s brother, Ahmad, opened Levant in June 2018. “Levant was doing fine, but if we open as Ranoush, it’s going to do way better,” Alhamid says, adding that Ranoush’s name recognition will be key.
“Hardly anyone in St. Louis will tell you they haven’t been to Ranoush,” Alhamid says. “If you’ve never been, your daughter has been or your sister or brother. We’ve been in business for 12 years and—knock on wood—we’ve had a really good following, a really good customer base.”
