Children and adults alike can expect a new treat in Chesterfield this Halloween.

Daylight Donuts is slated to open at 155 Hilltown Village Center on October 31. Owner Drew Selman, who says he and his family are self-proclaimed nerds for the holiday, thought All Hallows’ Eve would be the perfect time to open the store, despite the pandemic. “Trick-or-treating is going to be changed this year,” Selman says, “so we’ll do things like give out a mini donut to the kids with something fun on it.”

There are also fun items for adults, including boozy milkshakes. If that doesn’t interest you, consider frozen custard–filled doughnuts (like a ready-made ice cream sandwich) and apple fritters. Selman plans to add more fall-themed doughnuts and recipes throughout the season as well.

The shop will remain open until 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends. The concept of a late-night doughnut shop—”the whole daylight-after-dark idea”—is somewhat ironic, Selman told KMOX’s Overnight America. His goal was to create a dessert place to take the kids after school and athletic events but also appeal to adults later in the day.

Selman compares his endeavor to Boardwalk Waffles & Ice Cream, owned by his friend Eric Moore, who took the simple concept of a small ice cream-and-waffle sandwich shop and expanded the idea to include boozy shakes at a recently opened shop in Maplewood. Like Moore, Selman says he was trying to “create demand for something a bit unusual.”

Meanwhile, in Maryland Heights, a third location of Tony’s Donuts will be opening on Dorsett Road in January. (SLM has reached out for additional comment.)

A family-owned business, Tony’s has two other locations, the flagship at 12218 McKelvey (which was founded in 1995) and 6045 Howdershell in Hazelwood.

In addition to doughnuts, Tony’s offers pastries, bagels, croissants, cakes, cupcakes, and sandwiches. Providing a small dining area makes it seem “more of a café” than a traditional doughnut shop, according to its website. The new location will offer delivery services and a drive-through.
