Milagro Modern Mexican to close in Webster Groves in late March, possibly relocate

Co-owner Adam Tilford dubs it “an amazing restaurant in a terrible location.”

Milagro Modern Mexican is closing its doors—for now, anyway.

After an eight-year run in Webster Groves, co-owners Jason and Adam Tilford (also behind Mission Taco Joint) announced they will not renew their lease at 20 Allen. Milagro’s final day of service there will be Saturday, March 24. The duo are working to find another location for the restaurant.

Adam sees “Mission as more of an urban concept and Milagro as more of a suburban one, but that said, we’re open to any new location that makes financial sense.”

“Milagro is an amazing restaurant in a terrible location,” Adam said in a statement. “And eight years later, people still have a hard time finding us. We’d love to grow the Milagro concept alongside Mission Taco Joint, but to do so we need to be more accessible to the casual diner.”

The co-owners add that because the restaurant is now an eight-year-old business, they’d need to make a “sizeable investment” to update equipment, point of sale system, and furniture, which wasn’t financially viable at the Webster Groves location.

The Tilfords initially planned to move Milagro to a new development on Manchester, Market at McKnight, but it “didn’t work out as we anticipated, leaving us to make this very difficult decision to close without a new space lined up.”

When asked why the closure was announced so far in advance, Adam’s answer covered several bases: “One, we wanted to attract the attention of a new landlord or motivated seller, and two, we wanted to give people an opportunity to either pay us another visit or discover just where the heck we are located.”
