Maker’s Locale slated to open in the Delmar Maker District this fall

The development will include new concepts from Alpha Brewing Company, Steve’s Hot Dogs, The Fountain on Locust, and Third Degree Glass Factory.

This fall, the Delmar Maker District will debut perhaps its most ambitious attraction yet: Maker’s Locale, a new multi-use facility at 5232 Delmar with multiple dining and drink options, as well as events and live music throughout the year. Open to all ages, the facility will include a shared 8,000 square foot patio and beer garden.

The area will be centered around Alpha Brewing Company, which will include a 2,500-square-foot distillery and tasting room. The distillery will produce bourbon, whiskey, and a 70-proof vodka that will come in flavors such as cranberry, peach, grapefruit, lemon, lime, and blood orange. Alpha beer will also be served on tap, and made-to-order St. Louis–style pizzas will be available.

Other on-site dining options will include Steve’s Hot Dogs, which will feature the full menu found at its South Grand location. The Fountain On Delmar, a spinoff of The Fountain on Locust, will offer ice cream and boozy concoctions, focusing solely on the dessert portion of the flagship’s menu. It will aim to capture the same interior magic as its flagship location, with an ice cream and cocktail bar, in addition to booth seating. Both areas will offer counter service and their own seating. There will also be expandable walls that can be opened during nice weather, and the restaurants will include full views of the food prep areas.

“With Makers Locale you are watching things being created,” says Danni Eickenhorst, co-owner of The Fountain, Steve’s Hot Dogs, as well as a grilled cheese-themed, ghost kitchen spinoff, Steve’s Meltdown. “The spaces were designed with an experiential component so that guests could watch their food being crafted.”

The complex will also feature a 2,100-square-foot event space, ideal for smaller gatherings such as rehearsal dinners and baby showers. Third Degree Glass Factory will oversee the space, which will feature glass works made at the studio.

The Background

The building continues an effort to revitalize the area of Delmar Boulevard between Union and Kingshighway, an endeavor spearheaded by Third Degree Glass Factory founders Doug Auer and Jim McKelvey. Maker’s Locale will join a host of other attractions in the district, including Craft Alliance, MADE Makerspace, The Magic House at MADE, Brew Tulum Specialty Coffee Experience, and a new location of the The Kitchen Sink, slated to open this summer.

In related news, the St. Louis Business Journal reported today that Eickenhorst recently launched a new company, Hustl Hospitality Group, with plans to open additional restaurant locations. Her partners in the company are her husband, Marcus Eickenhorst, along with Ewing, who will serve as chief commercial officer.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to be a part of this reinvention of Delmar, building on the momentum happening here in the Makers District,” Ewing said in a press release. “This is a historic moment in the history of that area, as so many people are working to bring people together along Delmar in new ways.”
