Here’s someone I’ll be able to take off of my “I always wanted to meet him” bucket list: Robert Sinskey, who will appear from 5 – 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 17 at the Rock Hill location of The Wine and Cheese Place. He’s a pioneer in biodynamic winemaking and organic grape-growing (plus, who could resist someone who gives himself the title Daydream Believer)? Sinskey will have six of his Robert Sinskey Vineyards wines available for tasting (and subsequent purchase by the bottle), including a single-vineyard Pinot Noir that’s bound to be a special treat.

The Big Eau
Some folks are initially put off by eaux de vie and their various cousins because—especially if you drink too much too quickly— they can come across as pure firewater. So take your time and savor as you sip from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at a tasting of six European-style brandies at Vom Fass in Maplewood. The special guests for the evening are Martin and Lynn Weber, owners of Edelbrand Pure Distilling in Marthasville, who call their form of the magic potion “vinars.” The cost is $25, and seating is very limited; call 314-932-5262 for reservations.

Maybe I was simply attuned to this because of Cinco de Mayo, but I’ve been seeing an inordinate amount of pizza places with margarita pizza on their menu. Can you spell M-A-R-G-H-E-R-I-T-A? Sure, you can. And while we’re on the subject of Italian food, it’s a lost cause around these parts, but could even a few servers learn how to pronounce “bruschetta”? (Hint: sch = sk.) Finally, don’t correct me after I’ve just pronounced it correctly. I love servers and I know how much y’all bust your butts, and that (being rude or condescending) is one of the very few causes for me lowering your tip.
