Black Salt, has collaborated with Dierbergs to bring fresh modern Indian cuisine to area grocery stores. The products were launched last week at the Chesterfield Market Place store (1730 Clarkson), but the collaboration has been in the works since last fall. Black Salt also operates two restaurants in St. Louis, the flagship in Chesterfield and a sister restaurant in Creve Coeur that opened in January.
“It’s very exciting for us because this is a groundbreaking technology,” says Black Salt owner Raj Pandey. “Dierbergs is the first locally to be able to launch clean and fresh food without freezing, with a longer shelf life, and without the use of any preservatives or additives.”

The lineup features 14 meal trays, showcasing such favorites as coconut shrimp and green jackfruit, along with six sauces, including tikka masala and butter chicken sauces, which can be used to add flavor to homemade dishes.
The collection is made using patented technology that keeps food fresh without preservatives or additives. With lower sodium and a balanced ratio of proteins and carbohydrates, these offerings prioritize flavor and nutrition, Pandey says. “In recent times, [packaged products] have an ultra-processed tag on it. We want to change that, and we want to make sure that we can still package without any processing involved. This is like a home-cooked meal, with restaurant tasting, for the general American palate.”
The products will soon be available in all 27 area Dierbergs locations, according to Pandey, who adds that Black Salt packaged food is currently available in more than 100 stores across the country. Pandey looks forward to partnering with other grocers, as well as working with food manufacturers to advance the technology surrounding packaged foods.
“Our company’s main mission is to reduce global food wastage through the use of our patented technology,” Pandey says.
