This just in from Captain Obvious: The food truck movement does not appear to be slowing down.
In St. Louis, the number of trucks rolling the metro highways and byways now numbers over 40, a number that lately has been increasing each week.

This weekend, that number will grow by four—temporarily—as St. Louis becomes a stop on The Great Food Truck Race, a reality show now in its fifth season (airing locally on Sunday evenings at 8 p.m. on the Food Network). The show, hosted by Tyler Florence, follows eight trucks as they journey across the country, competing in various money making challenges at each stop. The truck with the lowest sales is eliminated, the rest move on. The grand prize a new food truck, plus 50 grand.
Relish first heard the tease from The Middle Feast Food Truck–one of the competitors—via Twitter, of course. Food truck operators are basically mobile pop-up restaurants that tend to announce their whereabouts via Facebook and Twitter, the latter being more popular as it tends to shine the brightest in real time.
Relish has since learned that other competitors on the show are Lone Star ChuckWagon , Let There Be Bacon, and Beach Cruiser, all of which posted to their Twitter feeds that they, too, will be in St. Louis this weekend, although none mentioned the show by name. The P-D’s Gail Pennington suggested that the Arch grounds may be part of the action. We’re keeping an eye on other local landmarks as well, such as Forest Park and Busch Stadium.
Follow the trucks’ Twitter feed to catch their whereabouts, as individual stops are not announced ahead of time.
