If you're from St. Louis, Carol House and its sibling owners Brook and Amy Dubman may feel like old friends, known for their local-famous catchphrase, “Because you like nice things.” Founded in 1964 by Nat Dubman, this proud family business has sold quality furniture at reasonable prices for more than 58 years. In two stores with more than 75,000 square feet of showroom apiece, the selection is extensive, offering dozens of brands including Bernhardt, Flexsteel, Hooker, Caracole, Rachel Ray Home, Jonathan Louis International and more.
Décor Interiors has been a fixture on Olive Blvd. in Chesterfield since 1966 and part of the St. Louis area since the 1920s. Third-generation owner Joe Fredlich goes out of his way to make customers feel at home and Décor is a favorite of many of discerning St. Louis homeowners for its selection of quality brands including American Leather, IDS Group, Lazar, Whiteline Modern Living, and Nourison rugs.
Last year, Susie Busch-Transou introduced St. Louis to her home and lifestyle boutique, opening Hearth & Soul’s third national location in the heart of Ladue. The concept she refers to as “hospitality retail” is designed to look like a private residence with inviting and well-appointed ‘rooms,’ including a hearth room, kitchen, dining room, bar, patio, library, bed and bath. Everything on display can be purchased and taken home right away. Busch-Transou carries furniture brands such as Four Hands, Made Goods, and Verellen– as well as beautiful décor and accessories from around the world.
Since 1977, House of Denmark has been a destination for St. Louisans seeking fine modern and contemporary furniture of European and Scandinavian Design, including classic teak from Denmark and Italian steel and leather. In its large showroom on Olive Boulevard, House of Denmark features brands like Natuzzi Italia, Max Divani, and IMG Norway in addition to its own lines.
People may forget that one of America's largest and oldest department stores sells fine furniture, but Macy’s is a great option for everything from sofas and sectionals to tables to beds with both in-stock and customizable options available in its local showrooms at West County Center, the Saint Louis Galleria, South County Center and in Fairview Heights at St. Clair Square. Started by husband and wife team Nicole and Brandt Genz, RF Home Co creates beautiful custom cabinetry and custom furniture pieces, as well as selling other furniture and home decor items in its large Kirkwood retail store. The store includes booths and items from over 50 local brands/makers in addition to its own RF Home Co merchandise. All furniture is available only for in-store pick up.
A local family business since 1980, this Manchester store was founded by newlyweds Jim and Linda Shubert. While Jim has since retired, Linda remains the creative heart of the team, using her background in interior design to select the highest quality merchandise. Shubert has thousands of in stock pieces in its 22,000-square-foot showroom, and offers custom orders on brands like Canadel, Durham, Bernhardt, Stickley, Lexington, Vaughan-Bassett and more.

This longstanding national retailer with a local store at the Saint Louis Galleria carries an extensive line of home furnishings and décor. “Anthropologie offers unique pieces that are only available for a limited time. That way your home won’t necessarily look like your neighbor's,” says interior designer Joni Spear.

Miller. “It’s adaptable, attainable and incredibly chic.”
Located in Clayton, Expressions offers custom furniture for any room of the house, from armchairs to sectionals and loveseats. Its annual floor sample sale is a highly anticipated event. “Expressions carries product lines that are otherwise exclusive to-the-trade, and makes them available to the public. One can order a customizable sofa, table, or pillow,” says interior designer Joni Spear.
With six locations in Missouri, including showrooms in Brentwood, Chesterfield, and Cape Girardeau among others, Metro Lighting offers top-notch lighting collections for both interiors and exteriors. Don’t miss out, though, on its wide selection of furniture and home accents, from seating and cocktail tables to home office and fireplace mantels.
RH has come a long way since its roots as Restoration Hardware, rebranding and elevating its product lines to become a favorite among trendsetting homeowners and designers alike. “They are great for clean-lined pieces, whether you’re looking for occasional tables, accents, or soft seating. They have done a really beautiful job with their modern collection, mixing different textures and materials to achieve a striking, yet timeless look,” says designer Laurie LeBoeuf. Visit their gallery on the second level of Plaza Frontenac.
With a spacious store at the Saint Louis Galleria, West Elm is a favorite of shoppers looking for high quality, stylish pieces that look designer but at a fraction of the price. Their mid-century inspired lines are particularly popular among fans of a modern aesthetic. The store offers free in-store design appointments with experts who can help with product selection and project goals.

When the iconic Swedish home retailer opened its St. Louis store in 2015, customers lined up to be the first ones in the door. Custom designed, sustainably harvested wood furniture by craftsman David Stine is a work of art. On his family’s 500-acre farm in Illinois, Stine grows, harvests, and mills the American hardwood he uses to build tables, beds, benches, desks, and table bases, often partnering with St. Louis’ top interior designers. “Perfection is how I would describe the product and the whole process,” says designer and frequent collaborator April Jensen of ADJ Interiors. “If you want anything done with wood he is the best.”
