Earlier this week, Niche Home Furnishings + Design (300 N. Broadway, 314-621-8131) announced that it will be closing its retail showroom and transitioning into a condo sales center and residential design studio.
Niche opened a decade ago when architecture-and-design firm the Lawrence Group decided to open its own store. After first opening on Washington Avenue, it moved into the Marquette Building on Broadway almost eight years ago. Its 5,000 square feet are filled with items across a broad price range, from $15 candles to furniture for several thousands.

In a recent article on the showroom published in the December 2014 issue of St. Louis Magazine, general manager Theresa Hunt said that business had been brisk, with recent sales up 13 percent over the year prior. “Residential design is coming back,” she said.
Earlier this week, owner Linda Loewenstein said in a statement that sales were up 45 percent in 2014, but the majority of Niche’s business is from special order furniture and services not related to the showroom.
The transition will take place over the next few months and is expected to be completed by May. A sale on items in the showroom will start this weekend.
