Ask Veronica: Where do local designers like to shop in St. Louis?

Now’s the perfect time to find out.

I field a lot of questions about where to shop in St. Louis for everything from furniture and home decor, to antiques and art. Knowing that many of you are out and about looking for gift ideas, we decided to poll local creatives about their favorite places to go. Here’s what they had to say.

Kelly Lott, HOK: “I love the local antique shops and vintage markets in St. Louis, places like The Green Shag Market, Cool Stuff Period and The Hill Antique Market. You never know what you’re going to find. My most recent purchase was an Art Deco Laurel clam shell lamp with an emerald green ceramic shade at Cool Stuff.”

Meg Minicky, Olive + Opal Interiors: “I recently visited Union Studio in Webster Groves and loved their handmade selections from local artisans—so many cute and unique gifts! I especially love the artwork. I love Forth and Home for its uniquely curated home goods that make amazing gifts.”

Patrice Munden, Patrice Munden Interior Design:The Little Shop Around the Corner is a resale store in Tower Grove that’s a part of the Missouri Botanical Gardens. People donate estate items and all proceeds go to support the Gardens. Fine furniture, silver, art, pottery, crystal—it’s all carefully curated and beautifully displayed. My last purchase there has become one of my most cherished possessions—an antique mahogany ladies’ letter/writing box made in 1840. I use it to write personal notes and cards and I love the elegance of it. It appears to have been made as a gift to a young woman or a new bride.”

Karen Korn, Karen Korn Interiors: “There’s something for everybody and every space at Hearth & Soul. I love the way they style the store. Everything feels luxurious. We buy gifts for our clients, as well as kitchen items, art books, and candles there. The last thing I bought was an oil diffuser for the powder room in my office.”

Jessie D. Miller, Jessie D. Miller Interior Design “Warson Woods Antique Gallery offers items I could never find in a mainstream store. I stumbled into the gallery years ago after leaving a meeting. It was a much needed creative escape after hours of conversation about finances. My most recent purchase there was three sets of antique books with similar sage-green binding. They blended in with the color of a built-in bookcase, and created a perfect monochromatic backdrop to a personal collection.”

Jimmy Jamieson, Jamieson Design: “I just bought two fabulous little paintings by Jordan Scott Gaunce at Duane Reed Gallery. Another local favorite is Barrett Barrera Projects. Susan Barrett, Bridget Melloy, and Kelly Peck have amazing taste and really have their fingers on the pulse of cutting edge, up-and-coming, and internationally renowned artists. Mark, from Mark O. Howald Antiques, is a seasoned professional with decades of experience. Keil Sherman has amazing coins for sale in Mark’s shop. Century Design is an online retailer but owned by a local guy named Kyrle Boldt, who has amazing high-style 20th-century decorative arts.”

Joni Spear, Joni Spear Interior Design:The Refind Room is a favorite. I discovered it  years ago while driving by the store on Brentwood Boulevard. I know I’ll always find a treasure there, be it old or new. The owners and their helpful staff are always introducing new pieces. I last purchased an antique silver candelabra that was perfect for a client’s traditional-style dining room.”

CJ Knapp, Yours By Design: “When I want something unusual I go to Rusted Chandelier, The Abbey, Wilson Lighting and Brody’s. The Green Shag Market is great for vintage mid century modern. I just bought two rugs from Rugs by Saga.”

David Deatherage, David Deatherage Design: “I love vintage furniture and fine fabrics. Forsyth marries the two in an artistic way, creating one-of-a-kind items. They also carry chic and unique accessory lines. While I was working on a local show house project several years back, they generously loaned some key pieces that truly elevated the space. My most recent purchase from them was two SAVED NY cashmere blankets for a client.”

Amy Studebaker, Amy Studebaker Design: “My favorite local home stores are Mark O. Howald Antiques and Fine Art and Rusted Chandelier. Mark has the most fabulous little treasures! We found a dining table for a client there. Rusted Chandelier has a great selection of pillows, artwork, and ribbon, which I used to decorate my home for the holidays.”
