A January Home Maintenance Checklist

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to take better care of your home, start this month with these home-maintenance to-dos that you should consider checking off your list, courtesy of Scott Mosby and Mosby Building Arts.

1. Review product warranties and product manuals for recommended maintenance. Mark your calendar to track scheduled maintenance and service.

2. Fix squeaks in floors and stairs.

3. Make or update a room-by-room inventory of everything in your house (photograph or videotape) for insurance purposes.

4. Insulate around exterior water pipes to avoid cold air infiltration.

5. Change or clean furnace filter and humidifier element.

6. Change water filters and service water softeners.

7. Push the “test” button on electric outlets (GFCI) in the kitchen, bath, and garage. Then push the “reset” button.
