Kate Pollman’s Digs

One of the best things about contributing to AT HOME is meeting so many nice people right here in St. Louis. Remember when I mentioned Kate Pollmann a few weeks ago on this humble blog? Readers of the print product know Kate, she’s the big winner of the Reader’s Design Awards. (Look for Kate in the Mossa post, but seriously…subliminal message…go buy it…it’s on newsstands now…her living room transformation is to die for.)

I LOVE her U-City digs. She’s filled her home with art, thrifty finds, re-purposed traditional furnishings, and funky creations.  It’s no wonder, when Kate isn’t fulfilling her role as Marketing Diva at Brown Shoe (love this sculpture, looks like my closet), she designs a line of hand-crafted jewelry and accessories. I won’t keep you in suspense. Find Kate’s avocation here www.katepollmann.com. She creates unique, simply GORGEOUS earrings, bracelets, and necklaces fashioned from incredible semi-precious stones, crystals, and metallic elements that both surprise and delight. Given they come from Kate’s creative nexus, her designs stylistically might harken back to “classic” pieces, but alway with a fun, modern look. (How much do I love this song?) And, seriously…who doesn’t look fabulous in big dang-ly earrings?  IJS.

So, I asked dear Kate to make sure to send me some pics of her new spring line.  You’re looking at those now. Well, welcome to another aspect of Chez Pollman. That cute little console table (glass/iron), and the Parson’s-inspired dining room table (that both touch her award-winning living room)? Her husband Dan MADE THEM.  No, ladies, that’s not a typo.

I’ve been married for 16 blissful, okay, grueling, okay just years. I know many of you know my Trophy Husband.  He’s just like Dan, sort of… I mean, when we were newlyweds, the Trophy Husband once made me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, so that counts, right? And, once, last year, he let me have the dregs in the bottom of the blender after he made a smoothie… And, like that’s practically the same thing as a glass and iron console table and a dining room table, right? Ohmigosh, are the Pollmann’s the cutest couple EVER or what?

Anyway, look at what Kate did…she’s gearing up for Easter on that incredible table she says is, “perfect size for dinner conversation.” (I know Kate, I felt like that about my PB & J and smoothie dregs.) Kate’s the kind of girl that USES her china.  Kudos, to you, Kate Pollmann for that, and so much more. She’s taken some decor elements, and combined her baubles for a pretty fabulous centerpiece, don’t you think? (I’ll take that chunky turquoise piece draped over the starfish, if you don’t mind…thank you very much.)

I’ll say this much for Kate Pollmann, she isn’t afraid of color, and isn’t afraid of combining vintage and modern…  Here’s another of Kate super-stylish vignettes. You know this Duncan Pfyfe-y buffet, right?  For something like 100 years, every grandma in the world was REQUIRED to have one to store her wedding china (that was never used). These are back, in a big way now, and see how Kate makes it so 2K10? I LOVE the guacamole-hued feather print above it, don’t you? It’s a fun, but chic twist on the two-tone damask stencils we all went nuts over a few years ago…

(And, yes, y’all, I hyper-linked to a guacamole recipe.  Memorize it. If I catch one more person in St. Louis puttin’ mayonnaise in guac, I’m going to unleash on this town.)

And, there you have it AT HOME readers. Chez Pollmann. I’m inspired. What about you?
