At Lost Hill Lake (2300 Mill Hill Road, St. Clair), guests can enjoy spending time in the great outdoors without leaving behind modern conveniences—and with a cannabis twist.
Located an hour west of St. Louis, the St. Clair resort and event space offers a range of glamping options. It’s also gearing up to host a series of cannabis-friendly events in April. Here’s what to know if you’re looking to celebrate 4/20 in a memorable setting.
The Events
Not so long ago, 4/20 was a day for many to consume cannabis openly in defiance of prohibition. Now it—or April 19, as the case may be—is a day to celebrate legalization.
On April 19, Lost Hill Lake will celebrate 4/20 with its Second Annual Lit ‘N’ Lost 420 Cannabash. More than 800 people attended the bacchanal of live music, vendors, and food last year, and more than 1,000 are expected this year. Franklin County cannabis events company 3 Budz Productions is running the show. Look for more than 40 cannabis-themed vendors, such as Gripping Image Glass Design, which will offer glassblowing demos. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Franklin County Humane Society and Victoria Place of Sullivan Alzheimer’s Fund.
And on April 26, LHL and Yonder Eats will host the Canna Cuisine + Concert, a four-course infused dinner in an enchanting open-air building called the Chapel. Course options include asparagus-and-corn chowder with curry-roasted chicken; “spring roll salad” with rice noodles and peanut sauce; braised Bulgogi beef; and mango cheesecake with sticky lime cream. Diners have the option to enjoy each course with or without THC.
Throughout the year, Introspectrum Events also hosts a version of the popular Paint Puff Sip art-making class, as well as Puff & Pose Yoga and a Sacred Cannabis Consciousness ceremony.
A popular wedding venue, LHL has also hosted a number of 4/20-style weddings, in which guests can partake, too.
The Setting
A cluster of resurrected old campers and buses—and one dry-docked houseboat—offer a series of delightful surprises at Lost Hill Lake. The St. Clair event space and resort has painstakingly refurbished two 1970s-era Apache-brand campers, two school buses, a 1977 Volkswagen “hippie van,” and a multi-level party houseboat to create nostalgic sleeping quarters for campers. Every lodging option has electricity and climate control.
Heated showers are in stalls with no roof, so guests can shower under the stars. There are also kayaks, canoes, and paddleboats for the lake, as well as fire pits, a sauna, hiking trails, and the option for a picnic jaunt to Thinking Rock, a scenic bluffside overlook.
LHL will shop for groceries for guests and even bring pastries from a nearby bakery for breakfast. Many guests prefer using the outdoor kitchens, outfitted with electric appliances. And the “s’mores charcuterie board” has so much chocolate, it sometimes lasts two nights.
Owner Samantha Williford, who says many of the amenities were inspired by travels in Central and South America, says the experience provides “the wonderful aspects of the outdoors but less of the less-wonderful aspects of the outdoors.”
