The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis is bringing this season a holiday classic, two family-friendly shows, and a treasure trove of award-winning plays to the stage, beginning on September 5 with The Lehman Trilogy.
“The new season will build upon The Rep’s decades-long tradition of artistic excellence as a leading voice in the region by spotlighting a myriad of the best and most exciting voices in theater to tell the 21st-century American story, and by pioneering an arts model which can be replicated to meet the challenges that face the industry at-large,” said Hana S. Sharif, The Rep’s Augustin Family Artistic Director, in a release announcing the upcoming season.

In addition to the main stage productions at Loretto-Hilton Center and the Catherine B. Berges Theatre at COCA, the season will also feature opportunities to join the Learning and Community Engagement (LACE) programs to better understand The Rep’s on-stage artistry.

The Lehman Trilogy
September 5–24, Loretto-Hilton Center
Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Play, The Lehman Trilogy tells the tale of a family on the brink of a new dawn. In 1844, a young man from Bavaria heads to New York City with his two brothers and a pocket full of hope and ambition. Audiences will watch the rise and fall of their family business in a show that The Guardian calls “a kaleidoscopic social and political metaphor.”
Twisted Melodies
October 3–22, Catherine B. Berges Theatre at COCA
Based on the life of St. Louis soul music icon Donny Hathaway, this one-man show gives audiences an inside look at Hathaway’s inner struggle between his muses of inspiration and his mental illness. The result is a heart-wrenching story told by St. Louis’ own Kelvin Roston, Jr.
A Christmas Carol
November 25–December 24, Loretto-Hilton Center
The Rep will continue its holiday tradition this year with its sparkling production of A Christmas Carol. The Dickensian classic invites audiences of all ages to join Ebenzer Scrooge on his path toward finding the meaning of Christmas.
The Greatest Love for Whitney: A Tribute to Whitney Houston
January 18–28, Catherine B. Berges Theatre at COCA
Featuring hit songs such as “I Will Always Love You” and “Saving All My Love For You”, this show brings audiences along on Whitney Houston’s journey to stardom. The Greatest Love for Whitney: A Tribute to Whitney Houston is a fantastical display chronicling how Houston changed the music industry forever.
Moby Dick
February 6–25, Loretto-Hilton Center
Lookingglass Theatre Company’s retelling of a Herman Melville classic takes center stage this February. Captain Ahab’s hunt for the great White Whale soars to new heights of obsession and bloodlust through on-stage acrobatics. Audiences will sit on the edge of their seats during this visceral and evocative experience.
The Lion
February 8–18, Catherine B. Berges Theatre at COCA
Benjamin Scheuer invites audiences to experience his coming-of-age story via original songs and monologues in this performance featuring one man and six guitars. The Lion is a story that roars for attention as it redefines musical theater.
August: Osage County
March 19–April 14, Loretto-Hilton Center
This Pulitzer Prize– and Tony Award–winning family drama paints a portrait of one Midwestern family’s dramas. After the disappearance of their alcoholic patriarch, three sisters return home to console and care for their drug-addicted mother. Familial tension swirls as audiences are drawn into this heartfelt, heart-wrenching story.
Tomás and the Library Lady

Based on the true story of Mexican-American author and educator Tomás Rivera, this enchanting show invites audience members to the brilliant world of Tomás’ imagination. When Rivera’s family moves to Iowa, where few people know Spanish, Tomás befriends his local librarian and discovers the magic of books.
Puss in Boots

From the big screen to the stage, this feline hero is making his mark. In this family-friendly production, learn more about the story of a poor miller’s son and his cat, who manage to scam their way to a princely castle with the cat’s wily ways. But how long can this kitty keep up the ruse before the cat is out of the bag?
