Garnet Griebel and Katie Miller are no strangers to being on the road. The Scarlett Garnet Jewelry founders often travel around the country to sell at wholesale shows and craft fairs. They don’t even live in the same city—Griebel lives in Kansas City, while Miller is based in St. Louis.
This month, Scarlett Garnet will debut its new “Wanderlust” collection. The line of more than 50 bracelets, necklaces, and earrings is inspired by the journeys Griebel and Miller have been on since founding the brand in 2006.
“Wanderlust is the yearning to travel,” Miller says. “We are able to travel and sell our wares all over the place. Like gypsies, we’re carrying multiple suitcases. I could set up an entire booth out of the back of my car. That traveling and wandering is how we’ve grown our business.”
Items in the “Wanderlust” collection are named after places they have visited during their travels.
“Each piece has its own little story,” Miller says, describing how the memory of the smell of the fir trees in Flagstaff, Ariz., during one of their cross-country adventures inspired a pair of earrings.
It’s about “memorable things of all these little towns,” she continues.
The new line prominently features copper and gemstones. A few of the pieces have a free-form design, which is a departure from their previous work.
Griebel and Miller have been working on this collection since February, when they attended a gem show in Tucson, Ariz. At the show, they were able to acquire gemstones that they had never seen before.
Scarlett Garnet Jewelry’s St. Louis store (2619 Cherokee) will host a launch party for the new line on Thursday, August 28. The event will include champagne and live models to display items from the collection. For more information, follow Scarlett Garnet's Facebook page.
