Photos: Heart and Sheryl Crow brought classic hits to Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre on Tuesday night

One song in Heart’s set hadn’t been performed since 1982.

Editor’s note: This post has been updated to reflect Sheryl Crow’s opening song.

Missouri welcomed home one of our own—at least for one night. As soon as Missouri native and former St. Louis resident Sheryl Crow walked onto the stage at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre on Tuesday night, the audience greeted the singer-songwriter with a standing ovation. Wearing shiny silver pants and sunglasses, Crow sang “Maybe Angels,” but it was during the song “Leaving Las Vegas,” that the audience really connected. That’s because the singer mentioned Mississippi Nights, the now-shuttered club where many played in St. Louis before they made it big. Crow’s final song was the most well-known, “Soak Up the Sun,” and with it, she had the audience dancing and singing along to all of the words of the feel-good hit.

Heart, the main act, consisting of sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson, took the stage shortly after, also welcomed with a standing ovation from many longtime fans, some stretching back decades. Their first song, “Rockin’ Heaven Down” was an immediate attention-grabber and had everyone jamming along, especially because it was the first time the song had been performed live since 1982.

Along with several of their well-known songs, including “Magic Man,” “Dog and Butterfly,” and “These Dreams,” Heart performed a variety of covers such as Marvin Gaye’s “Heard It Through the Grapevine,” Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Boxer,” Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb,” and Yes’ “Your Move.” Three more songs as part of the encore—Led Zeppelin’s “The Battle of Evermore,” “What About Love,” and “Alone”—were performed with powerful vocals and rock-and-roll spirit. But it was crowd favorite, “Barracuda” that had everyone on their feet, head-banging along to this classic hit. Heart’s performance onstage was empowering and entertaining, leaving many fans with—pun intended—heavy hearts when the show ended.
