Found by the Pound in Berkeley Offers a Hip Thrift Alternative For St. Louisans

As the name implies, clothes are sold by the pound—a concept that owner Rick Wolf plans to expand to South City next year.

Though many St. Louis thrift-store shoppers were saddened last week to hear that ScholarShop plans to close its doors, they can still find carefully curated items at Found by the Pound (6740 Romiss, 314-524-5493), which opened earlier this year in Berkeley.

The new store’s slogan is “hip thrift with a twist,” and the atmosphere lives up to it. With graffiti and upbeat music, the vibe is somewhat reminiscent of the Williamsburg neighborhood in Brooklyn.

As the name implies, gently worn and new items are sold by the pound—for $3, to be exact. Owner Rick Wolf calls it “a unique concept,” one that he plans to expand to South City early next year by opening a second location, along South Grand.

The store specializes in vintage, retro, and thrift clothing, with more than 10,000 items, including men’s, women’s, and children’s apparel, as well as shoes, accessories, and towels. Customers can find denim, leather, and suede; dresses, vintage tees, and outdoor apparel; and labels as disparate as 7 For All Mankind and Carhartt.

All of the clothing is immediately put on the floor, with no special designers pulled for online sales. The stock is organized by genre, size, season, and style, making it easy to find items and a convenient, worthwhile experience.
