Alamo Drafthouse Rolling Roadshow brings “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” to St. Louis

Attendees can get a taste of things to come at this teaser for Alamo Drafthouse’s upcoming St. Louis location.

Serving as a teaser for the highly anticipated St. Louis Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, and coinciding with Alamo Drafthouse’s 25th anniversary, the Alamo Rolling Roadshow is making a stop in St. Louis with a screening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail at The Grandel on August 18.

The Rolling Roadshow is part of a long-running series from Alamo Drafthouse, bringing film showings on an inflatable 40-by-60-foot screen to cities across the country. “Anytime an Alamo wants to showcase something, especially outdoors, when it’s temperate outside, we will travel there, put the stakes on the ground, and show it to the community,” says John Martin, co-owner of the St. Louis Alamo Drafthouse. This summer, the Rolling Roadshow will hit six cities, including the St. Louis stop.

The traveling screenings also feature the immersive, interactive experience that Alamo Drafthouse is known for. For the St. Louis screening, viewers can expect Monty Python and the Holy Grail themed pre-show activities and props from the film, as well as a visit from a group of local improvisers festooned in Monty Python costumes who will host the screening.

Martin sees the Rolling Roadshow as an opportunity to give St. Louis a taste of what’s to come for the Alamo Drafthouse. “The theme of this Alamo is absurdist comedy, everything from Monty Python to Mel Brooks, you name it,” Martin says. “We thought this Rolling Roadshow and the film would be a good appetizer for our opening.” The St. Louis location is currently slated to open in November and will be located at City Foundry, boasting 10 screens with luxury recliner seating, top-of-the-line projection, and dynamic surround sound, as well as an attached comedy-themed bar.
