In 1983, the Prapaisilps opened King & I, introducing St. Louis to Thai cuisine. Over decades, they’ve expanded a family of restaurants and international grocery stores that bring global flavors to local communities. They further support St. Louis’ Thai community as members of a temple in Florissant that hosts an annual Thai New Year’s celebration. Their advice to young entrepreneurs: “Look for opportunities—not just in the flashy sectors—but in areas that are underserved and steady.”

2026 QUESTIONNAIRE
PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS & OPPORTUNITIES
What’s a risk you took in business that didn’t pan out—but taught you something valuable? Our family tried a franchise concept once. We learned very quickly that the model wasn’t for us as owners we knew the conditions on the ground but the franchiser who was on a coast still was able to dictate how we could run things.
What advice would you give to the next generation of St. Louis entrepreneurs or leaders? Look for opportunities not just in the flashy sectors but in areas that are underserved and steady.
MENTORS & PEERS
What’s a local organization, nonprofit, or initiative that more people should know about—and why? We’re members of the local Thai temple in Florissant. We host an annual Thai New Year celebration in April and you can find some of the best Thai food there.
Which mentors or role models most influenced your path, and how do you try to pay that forward? Definitely our parents. They were the ones that encouraged us to think big and chase our dreams and immigrate to the United States for the best opportunities.
HOBBIES & INTERESTS
What do you do when you’re feeling stuck or uninspired? We’re big birdwatchers. We have a whole setup of bird feeders in our backyard and we love to see them come through.
