St. Louis Business 500: Q&A with Artur Wagrodzki, Artur Express

Insights from Artur Express’s Owner.

A native of Poland, Wagrodzki’s eponymous trucking company is integrating AI into every aspect of its operations. And although the trucking sector has faced challenges of decreasing freight rates and increasing expenses at the national level, Wagrodzki notes that St. Louis’ central location makes it an ideal logistics hub, given its access to major interstates, rail, and river transportation. “That connectivity is a huge advantage for companies like ours,” he says. Wagrodzki also applauds the drivers who “keep America moving.”

PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS & OPPORTUNITIES

What has been your/your company’s most significant success over the past 12 months? During the downturn in the trucking sector over the last 24 months, we were able to implement a wide range of new efficiencies that will set us up for long-term success moving forward.

What has you most excited about the future of your company or industry? The opportunity to integrate AI into every aspect of our operations.

If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why? I would create a more balanced relationship between shippers, brokers, and carriers. Too often, rates are driven down in ways that hurt long-term stability.

What’s the toughest business challenge you’ve had to overcome? Navigating a drastic drop in freight rates over the last 24 months while operating expenses continued to rise.

It taught me the importance of preparing for cyclical shifts and not assuming the good times will last forever.

What advice would you give to the next generation of St. Louis entrepreneurs or leaders? Don’t be afraid to take risks, but always keep efficiency and sustainability in mind. Building for the long term requires both vision and discipline.
