Since it opened its doors in 1866, St. Luke's Hospital has grown from a single hospital to a network with over 60 specialty areas at its Chesterfield and Des Peres locations. The independent, faith-based, nonprofit hospital also offers more than 30 other specialty centers across the St. Louis area.

St. Luke’s has received national attention for their dedication to quality healthcare. In 2018, the hospital received Healthgrades' Outstanding Patient Experience Award, given to only the top five percent of hospitals nationwide. Most recently, St. Luke’s Hospital was named one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery, also by Healthgrades. They are the only hospital in Missouri to achieve the distinction in 2019 and only the second in Missouri to receive the honor in the award's history. St. Luke's has also received Healthgrades five-star ratings consecutively from 2017-2019 for valve surgery and from 2010 to 2019 for heart attack treatment.
Healthgrades is an independent healthcare ratings organization, which evaluated Medicare inpatient records from 2015 through 2017 for about 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide. Healthgrades assessed performance of over thirty of the most common inpatient conditions and procedures. Hospitals cannot opt out of this analysis.
“Hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery distinction have proven their dedication to quality care and exceptional outcomes,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Healthgrades chief medical officer in a statement. “Consumers should consider hospital quality when navigating their care journeys, and this recognition distinguishes St. Luke’s Hospital in the marketplace.”
St. Luke’s was named among the top 50 U.S. hospitals for superior results in coronary artery bypass grafting procedures and heart valve surgery. Over the past over 25 years, the surgeons at St. Luke’s have performed over 10,000 heart and lung procedures in their Heart and Vascular Institute. The hospital is also in alliance with the Cleveland Clinic’s Heart and Vascular Institute, which has been ranked number one in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for heart care since 1995.
“This prestigious recognition illustrates the dedication of our entire St. Luke’s Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute team to improving the quality of life for our patients,” said Christine M. Candio, FACHE, St. Luke’s president and chief executive officer. “Our alliance with the nation’s No. 1 heart hospital, Cleveland Clinic’s Heart & Vascular Institute, further demonstrates St. Luke’s commitment to excellence in heart care.”
