Ever wondered how a dinosaur rawr sounds? Here’s your chance

The acclaimed multisensory traveling exhibit rolls into the Science Center from July through September.

This summer, the Saint Louis Science Center unveils one of its most thrilling exhibitions yet: SUE: The T. rex Experience. This limited-time traveling exhibition offers an unparalleled, multisensory journey into the world of the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex specimen ever discovered.

From now through September, visitors will have the rare opportunity to engage with SUE in ways that go beyond the everyday collections.

Since opening its doors in 1991, the Science Center has been home to a remarkable array of dinosaur fossils and an active paleo lab, staffed by dedicated volunteers who work in Hell Creek, South Dakota. SUE, named after the discoverer Sue Hendrickson, is a true standout, though.

Stimulate Your Senses

At 90 percent complete, this T. rex is the most complete specimen of its kind, providing an extraordinary complement to the Science Center’s existing collection.

What sets SUE apart is the multisensory experience that it offers. The Science Center is renowned for its hands-on exhibits, and SUE is no exception. Guests can touch replicas of the T. rex’s teeth and skin, feel the textures of fur from mammals that lived alongside dinosaurs, and even experience the visceral thrill of a roaring T. rex. This immersive approach allows visitors to step into a world that existed millions of years ago and appreciate the sheer power of this apex predator.

One of the exhibition’s highlights is a replica of SUE’s skull. This massive cast of the original 600-pound skull allows visitors to walk up and examine the intricate details of the skull as it was found, crushed into the ground. It’s a moment that sparks the inner paleontologist in all of us, reigniting childhood dreams of dinosaur discovery.

Continue Your Exploration

To celebrate SUE’s arrival, the Science Center will transform into prehistoric times with freshly painted dinosaur models on the lower level and real fossils brought in by paleo lab volunteers.

The Science Center will also host a number of special dinosaur-themed shows on the Energy Stage throughout the day, while the MakerSpace will host demonstrations on how bones and fossils are 3-D printed, offering a modern twist on ancient history.

While the Science Center typically offers free admission, SUE: The T. Rex Experience is a ticketed experience.
