When you enter the lobby of The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, you’re coming for more than just a show—you’re stepping into a fully immersive experience that allows you to escape, even for just a few hours.
Every production at The Rep makes for an unforgettable evening, as the entire atmosphere is curated to draw you into the world of the performance. It begins when you enter the transformed lobby, thanks to the vision of company manager Michael Ward, who is best known for his astounding winter wonderland displays for The Rep’s holiday shows.
For The Rep’s first show of the season, Dial M for Murder, the lobby was as dazzling as the set, reflecting the sophistication and delight of a chic 1950s London flat. The ceiling shimmered with hundreds of Edison bulbs and lights, and elaborate bouquets adorned with vintage rotary phones dotted the scenery, creating an atmosphere that immediately immersed guests in the show’s theme.
The house playlist greeted guests with “Music to be Murdered By,” an homage to Alfred Hitchcock filled with old radio spots that Hitchcock himself would have hosted. Every detail was dialed in to set the stage before the curtains even opened, giving everyone a taste of the suspenseful and thrilling night ahead.

For those craving a dash of mixology, The Rep’s bespoke themed cocktails offer an enticing blend of creativity and flavor. During the show, you could sip a Dial M for Manhattan or enjoy a Hitchcocktail, playfully crafted to enhance the show’s ambiance.
As the doors open and guests enter the theater itself, they’re instantly enveloped in the atmosphere, which this cornerstone of the St. Louis arts community seems to effortlessly create. “My attention span often feels shattered by the constant presence of reels, sound bites, and just existing in the everyday hustle and bustle of today,” says The Rep’s marketing director, Angel Azzarra. “But when I step into the theater, it’s amazing how I am so immediately locked in to focus on the show. The outside to-do lists just fall away, and I can just lose myself completely. That’s what we want to do at The Rep: We want to build a world, a complete experience that you can be dropped into.”
The Rep isn’t just a place to be entertained—it’s a space where art can make you think, feel, and experience the absolute thrill of live theater.
