1. Marie Foster
Serenity Myo
362 N. Boyle, 314-371-4999
Tips: 1) Less is more—pick a style that’s low-maintenance or doesn’t require a lot of heat. For example, try a style that’s short and choppy or has long layers. 2) Choose styles with more texture. 3) Beware of water damage—extended exposure to water will make hair dry and hard. Keep leave-in conditioner on hand.
Favorite Products: Redken Color has a variety of colors and is always evolving with trends. Pureology products are formulated specifically for color-treated hair—just a little product is needed for great results. To protect hair from frizz and lock in moisture, use Mizani HRM Humidity Resistant Mist. For natural and curly styles that are not chemically treated, the Mizani True Textures line is excellent.
2. Richard O’Connor
381 N. Big Bend, 314-726-2004
Tips: 1) Shampooing less often allows the hair to absorb natural oils; hair needs to be treated more gently over the summer months. 2) When washing and conditioning hair, finish with a cool rinse to seal the hair cuticles and to show off that natural shimmer. 3) Protect hair with a leave-in conditioner before going swimming.
Favorite Products: Scruples Moisture Bath Replenishing Shampoo, followed by a bit of Scruples Quickseal Fortifying Conditioner—it’s light, moisturizes, and makes hair very smooth. I love to use a touch of MoroccanOil before blow-drying to create a sexy, bed-head look. And use Scruples White Tea Leave-In Miracle Foam Conditioner to protect hair while at the beach or pool.
3. Sarah Knol
Bella Capelli Salon
608 E. Lockwood, 314-853-9454
Tips: 1) For a tousled look, try air-drying hair, then taking 1-inch sections and curling them under. Leave some pieces uncurled for a sexy, natural look. 2) To protect hair, use Aquage’s Beyond Shine spray on each section before curling, then spray with Tigi’s S-factor Vivacious Hairspray. 3) Freshen up your color with highlights, lowlights, or an all-over color. And don’t forget to wear a hat when out in the sun!
Favorite Products: I love Tigi’s S-factor Papaya Leave-In Moisture Spray. It can be sprayed on right after a shower or spritzed on damp hair before jumping into the pool. For curly or frizzy hair, try Tigi’s S-factor Smoothing Lusterizer. I also love MoroccanOil on all hair types. A little goes a long way.
