A trend that started on the coasts is sweeping Ladue: the blow-dry bar, a concept based loosely on the model of manicure/pedicure salons. On October 1, both Breeze (9916 Clayton, 314-429-2569, breezeblowdrybar.com) and Blown Away Blow Dry Bar (8815 Ladue, blownawaystl.com) are slated to open.
The former is the product of Lindsay Bush and Susannah Danforth. Their salon will offer 35-minute, $35 professional blowouts. “The essence of a good blow-dry is the technique,” says creative director Josh Wagner. “Our stylists are going to have a lot more control that clients don’t in their own home.”
Across Ladue, mother-daughter team Betty Goran and J.J. Krane are hiring 20 employees to staff their no-cut, no-color salon. For $30, clients receive a wash and blow-dry in about 35 minutes. The salon’s also set to offer complimentary wine, champagne, and chick flicks.
And, says Danforth, St. Louisans will soon discover another perk of visiting a blow-dry bar: “It’ll be a half-hour just for you.” Adds Wagner, “It’s just one of those things that until you have the experience, you don’t realize.”
