There are moments in sports that define a season and transcend the game: Mike Jones’ game-saving tackle in Super Bowl XXXIV, the Blues’ Monday Night Miracle, David Freese’s walk-off home run last October. In these moments, a player seems larger than life. But to sustain that magic over the course of a career? Well, only a handful can say they’ve accomplished that feat. Here in St. Louis, we’ve had more than our share of greats, from The Golden Brett to Stan the Man. Some, like Steven Jackson, are still pursuing greatness, while others, like Tony La Russa, are finally able to reflect on it. As for the rest of us? Sit back, and enjoy the game.
