The Hill is not only one of the most beloved neighborhoods in St. Louis, but also home to some of our best restaurants (and not all of them are Italian), making the culinary trifecta of great eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the same day a real—and delicious—possibility.
BREAKFAST
Shaw’s Coffee
The scent of freshly roasted coffee beans has long settled into the nooks and crannies of this cozy corner shop. There’s no finer (or more secure) spot to commune with the morning’s first cup and a fresh baked pastry than the tastefully furnished vault, a vestige of the shop’s previous life as a bank. 5147 Shaw, 314-771-6920, shawscoffee.com.
LUNCH
Gioia’s Deli
This popular deli draws the masses—including Travel Channel star Andrew Zimmern—for its variation on the hot salami, served warm and slathered with spicy mustard on crusty Italian bread. 1934 Macklind, 314-776-9410, gioiasdeli.com.
DINNER
Five Bistro
Anthony Devoti’s obsessive attention to detail, flawless technique, and dedication to local sourcing place Five at the top of our favorite Hill restaurants. The best bet for a first-timer: the always-delicious five-course tasting menu, highlighting the best flavors of the season. 5100 Daggett, 314-773-5553, fivebistro.com.
