Pericles (January 5–30). One of Shakespeare’s more obscure works, this tragicomedy—supplemented with original music and choreography by the Black Rep—follows the travels of Pericles, Prince of Tyre, as he shipwrecks his way around Africa and the Middle East. The Fall of Heaven (January 5–30). Written by crime novelist Walter Mosley, adapted from his novel The Tempest Tales. After Tempest Landry is shot, he lands face-to-face with St. Peter—and discovers he’s reported to the wrong gate. After a little wheedling, he’s allowed back to Earth for a chance to redeem his soul. Cocinando con Elisa (Cooking With Elisa) (January 7–23). In Lucía Laragione’s play, mysterious, alchemical things occur in a kitchen deep in the countryside of Argentina. The Giver (January 7–15). Metro Theater Company brings Eric Coble’s adaptation of Lois Lowry’s well-loved juvenile novel to the stage. On Jonas’ 12th birthday, he learns what his role will be in the world: a Giver, or keeper of the community’s memories. Though it sounds impressive, it is a role that will require every bit of resilience he has. $16 adults, $12 kids, students and seniors. Monty Python’s Spamalot (January 7–9). Based on the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, this musical won a Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005. Over the River and Through the Woods (January 7–19 & 13–16). In this comedy by Joe DiPietro, a young Italian-American man struggles to break free of family and tradition in New York in order to further his career by moving to Seattle. $15, $12 students and seniors.
