The home-store scene

Marketplace at The Abbey

In an area full of resale shops, the Marketplace at The Abbey (10090 Manchester, 314-965-1400) in Glendale sells custom furniture and home accessories. Owned by Terry Davis and Laura Wilson, the 5,000-square-foot space carries home accessories, lighting, linens, upholstery pieces, and custom floral arrangements—but the showstopper is Michael Moore’s custom furniture. “We do custom case goods, specializing in the French country style, and we use all reclaimed lumber, which really sets us apart,” says Moore.

“A store like this is needed in this area,” says Davis. “You can come in, see and touch the furniture, and not rely on a picture. Then our designers can help you with the accents to make it come alive.”

When Jeff Goodhart transformed an old salvaged door into a dining-room table, he never suspected that project would progress into a passion—and ultimately an entire brick-and-mortar store, Red Door Furniture Co. (1105 N. Second, St. Charles, 314-779-8428, reddoorfurnitureco.com). Goodhart and his wife, Jessi, began selling their dining, console, side, and coffee tables on Etsy. Now you can buy your own door or window turned table by looking through their selection or by accompanying the Goodharts to find that perfect one. Red Door also sells restyled and repainted furniture, architectural elements, home accessories, and Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint.
