One of our unofficial predictions for year 2012 was that the local food truck scene would level off--and maybe even decline due to increased competition. We were unofficially--and officially--wrong.
The first truck to hit the streets, Pi on the Spot, did so two years ago, in June 2010. Last October, in conjunction with our annual "Best Restaurants" issue, SLM published its first "The St. Louis Food Truck Guide," providing details on the then-current list of 16 trucks.
Now, barely nine months later, that number has more than doubled.
This month, by our count, 33 trucks will be traveling the metro's macadam (for comparison, Chicago has 84). Even if we have the total number right, by the end of the week we may be wrong--it's happening that fast.
We have updated the original SLM article with current information and streaming Twitter. The list is comprehensive--more so than any other such list in the city--and we intend to keep it that way. If we've missed a truck (or you know of one on the horizon), feel free to comment. And kindly note this blogpost...so you can remain posted on the local trucks' whereabouts.
