St. Louis just elected its first new mayor in 16 years—and its first female mayor. Lyda Krewson swept the mayoral race, garnering two-thirds of the vote to defeat Republican candidate Andrew Jones, among others.
A more contentious city race came in the form of Proposition 2, which called for a use tax increase to help fund a downtown Major League Soccer stadium. It narrowly failed, with 53 percent of voters opposed to it. Proposition 1, which calls for a sales tax increase to partly fund a north-south MetroLink expansion, passed, with 60 percent of voters supporting it.
