St. Louis Night Life: Where to Get Heat Wave–Friendly Drinks

One hundred five degrees plus booze equals bad news. When it’s wretchedly hot out, one should abstain from consuming alcohol altogether. But, if that’s not going to happen, there are measures you can take to enjoy your-best-friend-and-mine during this Hadesian heat wave.

Drink the right drink. Whiskey, wine, they are your worst enemies, as is anything fruity on ice which you’ll gulp down in two seconds. Opt instead for a something light and refreshing but relatively slow-drinking and low ABV like a pale ale or hefeweizen. International Tap House has a vast selection.

Another oft-overlooked option is the shandy, which is beer mixed with lemonade, ginger beer, or a flavored soda. The folks at McGurk’s whip up a nice one.
