Neon Memes • Titans may clash, worlds may quake and other Stan Lee–style overstatements may be made tonight at the metro area's classiest purveyor of comic books, Star Clipper (6392 Delmar Boulevard, 314.725.9110). Starting at 7 p.m., affable assistant managers Nick Kuntz and Jon Scorfina will host―what else?―"Trivia Night With Nick & Jon." In the event, three-member teams that registered by January 2 will compete in four rounds of questions involving the four contemporary mainstream publishers in the U.S., American indies, manga and other topics. Star Clipper will provide both snacks and prizes, and cellphones and similar handhelds will be strictly verboten―no "lifelines," babe. Last Friday, when I chatted with Kuntz, he was fretting over the questions; he and Scorfina were trying to make them neither too difficult nor too easy. Hmmm. If I were writing 'em, the queries might go something like this: "If the archer Hawkeye had debuted at DC in the '40s instead of Marvel in the '60s, why would the character likely have been given a different civilian name?" (Think you know, True Believer? The first correct respondent to this blog's comments section will win a No-Prize found discarded in Stan the Man's ferschlugginer cabana!) ―Bryan A. Hollerbach, Managing Editor
