Zoe’s Place opens in Lindenwood Park

Owner Jaimee Maddox recently opened the neighborhood bar, named for her dog, in the space formerly occupied by Claudia’s.

Lindenwood Park has a new bar and grill. Last month, Zoe’s Place (3322 Watson) opened in the space formerly occupied by longstanding bar Claudia’s. Owner Jaimee Maddox and the bar’s namesake, her dog Zoe, now greet guests at the new neighborhood bar.

The décor includes a mélange of neon, photos, street signs, artwork, plants, and ephemera. A neon sign features country singer Tim McGraw, though the music crosses a range of genres. There are several TVs throughout the space, and Maddox added bar games, gaming machines, and Keno.

Outside, Maddox added a small patio in back and is in the process of adding an awning over it. The outdoor seating also includes watering bowls and biscuits for dogs.

The Menu

The fully stocked bar at Zoe’s Place includes a range of canned and bottled beer options. “I fixed the walk-ins and coolers to make sure we have super-cold beer,” says Maddox. Happy hour is available daily, with such specials as Tito’s Tuesdays, Whiskey Wednesdays, Tully’s Thursdays, Fireball Fridays, and Sunday Honey Fun Days.

There are specials on well drinks on Mondays, as well as Bloody Marys on Saturdays. The bar also serves TJ’s pizzas, as well as such snacks as chips, Fritos, and Slim Jims.

The Backstory

“I always knew I wanted to own a bar,” says Maddox, who started working in the hospitality business at age 19. She opened her first bar, Sophie’s (named for her beloved former dog), in 2009. She later moved to Colorado, where she opened Zoe’s Lounge (named for her current dog) before deciding to sell the bar and move back to St. Louis with Zoe.

“I wanted to come home to the neighborhood where I’d lived my whole life,” she says. “I had sold real estate in all these neighborhoods—this is where I opened my first bar. I’ve invested in three Airbnb properties here.”

Maddox revamped the former bar by starting with a fresh coat of paint. She also added photos and mementos from Sophie’s, Zoe’s Lounge, and her travels. “I want to let people know I’m the new owner, not simply the previous bar rebranded,” she says. “I’m catering to the neighborhood.”

The bar is currently open from noon–1 a.m. daily, though Maddox hopes to eventually expand the hours to a 6 a.m. opening to help accommodate night-shift workers.
