And so it’s official… let the Silver Bullets fly!
Since late October, rumors that the Columbia, Mo-based Tropical Liqueurs (known to most of the free world simply as Trops) would be opening up a local outpost had been swirling well, like Rum Runners in a Trops frozen drink machine. But they only became official today.

Pending final approval from the franchisor and following a 2-3 month renovation, a Trops franchise will move into the building at 1800 S. 10th (the former Gladstone’s) at the corner of 10th and Soulard, in Soulard.
Even though Mardi Gras is officially kaput, we have it on good authority that with today’s news, singing, dancing, hooting and hollering has again commenced on the streets of Soulard and that oversized Styrofoam cups are being clinked together (as best they can) in celebration.
SLM’s Bill Powell tweeted the words that countless others are no doubt thinking:
Although details are sketchy and the franchisees have yet to respond to inquiries, all indications point to a straight duplication of the frozen cocktail bar, the one with the clever tagline that’s been a staple and right of passage for novitiates at State U since 1985.
There are currently two Trops in Columbia and one in Springfield, Mo. This will be the first location in the metro area.
Plans are to utilize both floors of the 2-story brick building (approx 3000 SF total) as well as outdoor space on the east and south sides of the structure. The Gladstone’s space did have a small kitchen in the rear but it’s not yet known whether it will be renovated or demolished.
More news as we suck it up.
