Last Friday, guests at Edera’s courtyard patio enjoyed the Summer Solstice Celebration while sampling the Italian eatery’s new food and beverage specials. Beginning this week is “Burrata and Bubbles,” a mid-week happy hour event (5–6:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday) featuring different burrata offerings and spritz-focused cocktails with botanical flavors, such as Aperol Spritz, Hugo Spritz, Grapefruit Rose Spritz, and Bellini. (See the complete online menu.) Later in the week and later at night (9 p.m.–midnight Friday and Saturday) is “Pizza for A Purpose,” featuring executive chef Andrew Simon’s sometimes unexpected takes on Neapolitan pizza. (See current menu online). A portion of those evening’s pizza sales will be donated to Operation Food Search. 48 Maryland Plaza, 314-361-7227.
INSIDER TIP
Locally Made Longganisa at Schnucks

After a successful test launch at select Schnucks stores, The Fattened Caf, a locally owned catering company and pop-up restaurant, will be expanding its popular line of longganisa sausage to 67 Schnucks stores in two states. Beginning July 2, the fully-cooked, smoked, and cured Filipino breakfast meat (made using natural, locally sourced ingredients) will be available in four varieties: Sweet & Spicy Chicken, Sweet Hamonado Chicken, Sweet & Spicy Pork, and Sweet Hamonado Pork. (Having ramped up production, the owners are now able to fulfill wholesale and restaurant charcuterie orders as well.) The Fattened Caf will resume its successful series of pop-up events at Earthbound Beer (2724 Cherokee) beginning July 4. (See the schedule online).
MICRORANT
Notchless Condiment Packets

While we regard condiment packets as an acceptable nuisance, what is unacceptable are those that lack the “Tear Here” notch, that small but oh-so-important slit cut into the top or side of the packet, which allows the user to squeeze out the goods. Packets without slits often mean sawing open packets of hot sauce with our teeth, creating an embarrass-your-dining-partner scene—and, likely, a mess. We really don’t want to pack up our medical-grade scissors when we go out for a cheeseburger and fries just to cut a corner.
