There will no longer be slim pickin’s when it comes to chicken in Troy. The chicken chain Slim Chickens opened its new location last Wednesday, August 12. It marks the first location near the St. Louis metro area. (The chain also has Missouri locations in Columbia, Fort Leonard Wood, Lebanon, Independence, and Liberty.)

As the name implies, the menu centers around chicken, with wings, tenders, combination meals, and  other options, including sandwiches, waffle options, wraps, salads, and desserts. The freestanding unit features inside and outside seating, curbside pickup, and a drive-thru window. Catering is also available.

Mike Mooreland, the franchisee of the new location, says the response has been encouraging. “It’s been almost overwhelming with the amount of business we’ve had,” he says, “but it’s been a good opening for us.”

In fact, Mooreland’s team recently signed a development deal for 30 more locations that are slated to open in Southern Illinois and Missouri over the next eight years, with about two or three stores scheduled to open each year.
