Editor's note: The passing of Larry Lampert, one of St. Louis' most colorful restaurateurs, prompted the closure of The Red Shack in Dogtown. The Bevo Mill reopened as Das Bevo, and Pat Hanon (who coincidentally ran the Bevo Mill in the mid-80s) says that with the closing of Patrick's Westport Grill on Mother's Day, he'll be hanging up his tongs after 50 years in the restaurant biz. The city's first self-pour bar (Tapped) opened in Maplewood to huge crowds, former-DJ-turned-chef David Kirkland opened the appropriately-named Turn in Midtown, and the Grbic family renovated its second south city landmark at Lemmons by Grbic.
